TikTok has risen to become one of the most popular social media platforms of our day. Since its inception in 2016, it has attracted a large number of artists, and it continues to grow by the day. However, one name in particular has begun to gain traction on the platform.
TIDAL announced on Twitter on Thursday (December 16) that Beyoncé has joined TikTok. In just over an hour, Queen B gained about 50,000 followers, and that figure has already risen to over 200,000 as of press time.
Beyoncé has yet to post anything to her TikTok account, but given her Instagram updates, fans should expect a steady stream of videos from Mrs. Carter, especially with a new album on the way.
Fans will also be hoping that Beyoncé doesn’t pull a quick one like her husband JAY-Z, who reactivated his Instagram account in early November only to deactivate it two days later.
While only following one person (Beyoncé, of course), Hov tweeted a single photo promoting his Netflix film The Harder They Fall. Before his abrupt departure, he had amassed over two million Instagram followers.
While Beyoncé continues to grow her online profile, JAY-Z is a touch more reticent on the subject. In an April interview with The New York Times, he discussed his problems with social media and “cancel culture.”
You can’t give someone a microphone for a day and expect them not to use it!” he stated “Imagine having a microphone and being questioned about social justice issues at the age of 18?” ‘What?’ it’s like. I’m supposed to know the answer, and if I don’t answer correctly, if I don’t say everything correctly, even if my intentions are good, and I don’t say the same right thing every time, it’ll be all over the place.'”
There’s a deeper reason, according to Funkmaster Flex, why JAY-Z avoids social media – at least publicly.
“Do you have any idea why he isn’t on social media?” Flex mentioned this earlier this year during an appearance on Million Dollaz Worth of Game. “Because he’s the most sensitive muthafucka on the earth, and he can’t stand it when people tell him the truth in his comments.” It’s too much for him. He is unable to access social media. Do you know what Jay does for a living? He uses a false page to monitor social media. “I’m going to tell you the truth.”
