As the first female rap combo to top the Billboard Hot 100, Nicki Minaj and Doja Cat will go down in history.
Women have entrenched their position at the forefront of Hip-Hop culture over the last two years, and 2020 saw some of our favorite female emcees reach astounding new heights. Women in rap made history last year, not only by being more present and dominant than ever, but also by having two female rap duets reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
On May 16, 2020, Doja Cat’s “Say So” remix with Nicki Minaj debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and just three months later, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s sensuous track “WAP” debuted at number one.

While both tracks made history, it was Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj’s funky pop-rap collaboration that broke the ceiling and let the floodgates open.
Over a year later, Guinness World Records has officially recognized the “Say So” remix as the first single by a female rap duet to reach the top of the Hot 100 chart. While fans wait for Doja Cat’s reaction to the exciting news, Nicki has announced it on Instagram with the remark, “In the last three years, no album or single has been released. Let’s toast to the year 2022.”
