The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett were prior Star Wars series, but this one is set far earlier in the timeline, following McGregor’s last appearance in the prequel trilogy, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

“Even when I originally got this position, it didn’t even enter my mind,” she told Vanity Fair of creating history while working on The Mandalorian. I’m not sure what kind of fairytale I was living in if I didn’t think this was significant. But I went through prep and it didn’t occur to me until one of the first days of shooting when someone stated it… It never occurred to me that I was the first to jump.”

She did say, though, that she wanted the attention to be on her work rather than her background. “I’d like it to be focused on the work.” I aspire to be a good filmmaker, not a good Asian director or a good female director. But, on the other hand, my career path and representation are undoubtedly significant. It’s significant. I’d like to see more female directors and more directors of color.”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s TV Director Roundtable, Chow revealed how directing Obi-Wan Kenobi will be different from directing The Mandalorian in one major, yet simple, manner.

“It’ll definitely be different,” she added, “simply in terms of the sheer workload of doing the whole thing.” “However, I will miss having a team and having people to bounce ideas off of in some ways.” But, on the other hand, it’s wonderful to have a consistent voice and know what you’re doing from start to finish.”

How many seasons of Obi-Wan Kenobi are there?

Obi-Wan Kenobi has only had one season revealed so far. “We’ll see,” McGregor said to Entertainment Tonight when asked if the series would be a “standalone.” “Who knows?” you might ask.
